Tanay

Dr Tanay Naik is the High School Principal at The American School in Japan (ASIJ), bringing over 15 years of leadership and teaching experience across Canadian independent and international schools. Before joining ASIJ, he served for six years as the Secondary School Deputy Principal for Teaching and Learning at the United Nations International School (UNIS) in Hanoi, Vietnam, and previously held administrative roles in Toronto, including Director of the Forum for Change at Havergal College and Vice-Principal at Toronto French School. A third-culture kid who attended international schools in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia growing up, Dr. Naik holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Western University, a Master of Arts in History from McGill University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. A dedicated champion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) and pedagogical innovation, his leadership philosophy focuses on building authentic belonging, community partnership, and "rigorous joy" in learning. He resides in Tokyo with his wife, Victoria, and their two daughters.
